Smit Ghelani
Profile & History
Smit Ghelani is a Senior Lecturer at the Goa Institute of Management. He has submitted his doctoral thesis in Information Systems at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode. He holds a PGDM in Information Technology and Operations Management from the Goa Institute of Management and a B.Tech. in Information Technology from Nirma University. He has also qualified UGC-NET and UGC-NET–JRF in Management.
Smit’s research examines digital platforms, the creator economy, information systems discontinuance, and the broader socio-technical implications of digital technologies. His work draws on qualitative methods and systems perspective to understand how individuals and organizations design, govern and transform through information systems. His research has been presented at leading academic conferences, and his work has been selected for doctoral consortia and paper-development workshops.
At GIM, Smit teaches courses in the areas of IT and Operations such as Digital Business, Operations Management, Operations Strategy, and Business Analytics. He emphasizes on case-based teaching and discussion, and focuses on applying concepts of management to different organizational challenges.
Before entering academia, Smit brought over five years of industry leadership experience, having directed operations at a family-run chemicals manufacturing business, where he scaled production capacity fivefold, secured ISO 22000 certification, and led a cross-functional value chain spanning global procurement, manufacturing, and international sales. He has also held teaching and leadership roles at Endeavor Careers, and Gujarat University.
