Advancing Youth-Led Sustainability: GIM’s Association with SDSN Youth

At Goa Institute of Management, sustainability and responsible leadership are at the heart of management education. Over the years, the Institute has consistently sought global platforms that align with its vision of shaping ethical, socially conscious leaders capable of addressing complex societal challenges. One such meaningful engagement is GIM’s association with the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Youth (SDSN Youth)—the youth-focused arm of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).
GIM has been a member of the broader SDSN framework since 2020, reinforcing its long-term commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In September 2025, the Institute strengthened this engagement further by joining SDSN Youth, a global initiative that empowers young people to drive sustainable development through collaboration, innovation, and action.

What is SDSN Youth?
SDSN Youth is the flagship initiative for young people under the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, an international organization that mobilizes scientific and technological expertise to promote practical, knowledge-based solutions for sustainable development. With a presence across six continents, SDSN Youth brings together students, educators, researchers, and youth-led organizations to collectively work towards achieving the SDGs and the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
The network’s work is centred around four key focus areas:
- Mobilising youth support for the SDGs
- Supporting youth-led and youth-focused organizations working on sustainable development
- Providing capacity-building opportunities to equip young people with essential skills and knowledge
- Promoting practical solution initiatives and long-term pathways for sustainability
This global platform enables young leaders to move beyond awareness and actively contribute to creating inclusive, resilient, and sustainable systems.
GIM’s membership in SDSN Youth aligns seamlessly with its academic philosophy and institutional mission. The partnership creates opportunities for students and faculty to engage with a global community of changemakers, exchange ideas, explore collaborations, and access learning and funding opportunities related to sustainability and responsible management. More importantly, SDSN Youth complements GIM’s emphasis on action based learning—where theoretical understanding is translated into real world social impact. Through this association, GIM aims to further integrate the SDGs into student initiatives, research, campus activities, and community engagement.

Student-Led Sustainability at the Core
A key driver of GIM’s engagement with SDSN Youth is its strong student leadership ecosystem. Samarthan – the CSR Club of GIM, in collaboration with the Centre for Social Sensitivity and Action (CSSA), plays a central role in coordinating sustainability-focused initiatives on campus. Samarthan’s grassroots projects, awareness campaigns, and community engagement efforts embody the action-oriented values of SDSN Youth, making it a natural partner in translating global goals into local impact.
