“The future belongs to those who can see opportunity in uncertainty”: Sunil Gupta addresses 617 graduates at GIM Convocation Ceremony
"The future will not be built by people who wait for certainty. It will be built by people who see possibilities before others do. Who see opportunity in every single problem. People who are willing to work hard. People who take responsibility. People who have the courage to build."
Mr. Sunil Gupta
CEO & MD at Yotta Data Services
Goa Institute of Management (GIM) hosted its convocation ceremony on 28th March 2026, bringing together students, faculty, industry leaders, and families to celebrate a significant academic milestone. A total of 617 students were conferred their diplomas during the ceremony. Mr. Sunil Gupta, widely known as the ‘Data Center Man of India,’ graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the graduating cohort, Mr. Sunil Gupta said, “The future will not be built by people who wait for certainty. It will be built by people who see possibilities before others do. Who see opportunity in every single problem. People who are willing to work hard. People who take responsibility. People who have the courage to build. And looking at all of you today, I'm very confident that many of you, many of those future builders, are sitting right here. So go out and create the next transformative moments for India. The world is waiting.” An alumnus of Columbia University and NIT Kurukshetra, Mr. Gupta is a pioneering force in India’s digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence ecosystem. Through his leadership as the CEO and MD at Yotta Data Services, he has been instrumental in advancing hyperscale data centres, cloud computing, and AI-driven innovation in India.
The convocation marked a proud moment for 617 young leaders from 6 programmes as they were formally awarded their degrees. This included 3 scholars from Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), 280 students from Post Graduate Diploma in Management, 57 students from PGDM in Health Care Management (HCM), 172 students from PGDM in Big Data Analytics (BDA), 61 students from PGDM in Banking, Insurance & Financial Services (BIFS), and 44 students from PGDM Hybrid.
This year, 13 students were awarded gold medals and 2 students received silver medals in recognition of their exceptional achievements. These accolades were presented for excellence across categories such as best academic performance, best student of the year, best performance in communications, best summer project, best Gaon student, and recognition for extra-curricular activities.
During his Presidential Address, Mr. Ashank Desai, Chairman of the Board of Governors at GIM and founder of Mastek, remarked, “Convocation is not just a celebration of your achievements, but the beginning of a new journey. As you step into a rapidly changing world shaped by technology and global shifts, it is your values, integrity, and ability to work together that will define your leadership. Remember that you are lifelong ambassadors of GIM, and through your actions, you will shape not only your own future but also the future of this institution and the nation.”
Congratulating the graduates, the Director of GIM, Dr. Ajit Parulekar, said, “GIM is continuously strengthening its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and industry relevance. In the past one year, we have focused on enhancing our programmes and creating an environment that encourages critical thinking and responsible leadership. As our graduating class steps into the professional world, they are well-equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to navigate complexity and drive positive change across sectors”.
Adding a personal touch to the ceremony, the valedictory address by Mr. Rashiv Tripathi reflected on the shared journey of growth, resilience, and transformation experienced by the batch over two years at GIM. He highlighted how the true essence of GIM experience lay in the sense of community, where friendships, collaboration, and collective support helped students navigate challenges and celebrate successes together. Emphasising that “Success at GIM is never an individual journey, but a collective one,” he spoke about the lasting impact of these relationships and experiences. He concluded by urging his peers to move forward with courage, purpose, and a commitment to creating meaningful impact in the world.
