“My definition of leadership got redefined.”

Dr. Sobita Kirtani Assistant Professor, Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Sciences

Goa Institute of Management’s identity is built on a singular, powerful mission: to nurture responsible leaders for a rapidly transforming world. This commitment to leadership, however, extends far beyond the corporate boardroom; it is deeply embedded in GIM’s efforts to strengthen the very backbone of the nation—its higher education ecosystem.

From Institutional Excellence to National Mandate

Recognized for its three-decade legacy of academic excellence and its standing among the top 2% of global business schools, GIM successfully designed and delivered the Academic Leadership Program (ALP) for the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa, in 2024. Aimed at strengthening academic governance and institutional leadership across colleges in the state, ALP received outstanding feedback for its experiential pedagogy, faculty expertise, and practical design.

GIM X NFLP

Due to GIM’s demonstrated expertise in leadership development, executive education, and institutional governance capabilities that extend well beyond management education into national capacity-building, it was chosen as one of the national host institutions for the Nurturing Future Leadership Program (NFLP) in 2025. This flagship initiative, under the Ministry of Education’s Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP), is a direct response to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The program aims to create a pipeline of visionary faculty who can guide India’s Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) toward global excellence.

About Nurturing Future Leadership Program

NFLP addresses a critical structural gap in Indian academia: the transition from scholar to leader. While many faculty members are world-class researchers, the skills required to govern an institution, manage diverse teams, and navigate strategic challenges require a different kind of preparation. NFLP is designed to provide this preparation, guided by a revolutionary motto: “Everyone is a leader”. This philosophy emphasizes that leadership development is not reserved for those already in administrative roles, but is a vital asset for any interested faculty member looking to excel in their teaching, research, and institutional contribution.

Five Days of Immersive Transformation

NFLP at GIM is structured as an intensive 5-day residential journey that removes educators from their daily routines to focus on personal and professional evolution. The residential format is a deliberate choice, fostering a peer-driven environment where faculty from across India engage in deep dialogue, collaborative problem-solving, and shared reflection.

The curriculum is meticulously built around six core dimensions of leadership excellence:
  1. Teamwork:
Building trust, managing conflict, and acting as a catalyst for change.
  2. Communication:
Mastering active listening, empathy, and public speaking.
  3. Self-Management:
Developing emotional resilience, self-awareness, and lifelong learning.
  4. Professional Skills:
Honing strategic thinking, financial acumen, and negotiation strategies.
  5. Critical Thinking:
Leveraging logical reasoning and creative problem-solving.
  6. Conscientious Citizenship:
Grounding leadership in ethics, integrity, and sustainability.

GIM’s unique delivery also integrates modern tools, including specialized sessions on Generative AI and Prompt Engineering to help educators lead technological and pedagogical innovation.

Impact and Success: 100 Leaders and Counting

The impact of this collaboration is already evident. By early 2026, GIM successfully completed three batches, training 100 faculty members from HEIs across India. These cohorts were not merely passive recipients of knowledge; they engaged with senior government officials, such as Shri D. K. Sharma, Director of the Department of Higher Education, and demonstrated their ability to translate classroom learning into strategic institutional insights.

Join the transformation

As GIM continues to host upcoming batches of the NFLP, it invites Heads of Institutions to invest in their human infrastructure. Regular and permanent faculty members must be nominated by their Head of Institution (Director, Vice-Chancellor, or Principal) and register through the MMTTC Portal at https://mmc.ugc.ac.in. To ensure that talent remains the only criterion for participation, the program fee of ₹50,000 per participant is fully sponsored, covering tuition, accommodation, and meals. Institutions can nominate up to two faculty members per batch, with the only cost being travel. By sending faculty to GIM, institutions are not just participating in a program; they are joining a national movement to create a participative, empowered, and visionary workforce for the future of Indian education.
