The world doesn’t need more managers—it needs mindful leaders. At the Goa Institute of Management (GIM), this belief is more than a philosophy—it’s a practice. GIM is the first higher education institution in the world to integrate Social, Emotional, and Ethical (SEE) Learning into its academic framework. Since 2022, this transformative approach has been shaping not just how students think, but how they lead—with clarity, compassion, and conscience.


What Is SEE Learning?

Developed by Emory University and inspired by the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, SEE Learning is a globally recognized framework that nurtures essential human capacities:

  • Self-awareness
  • Compassion and self-compassion
  • Resilience
  • Ethical reasoning
  • Systems thinking

While SEE Learning has been adopted in schools across more than 40 countries, GIM is the first to bring this transformative approach into the world of management education with the support of the SEE Learning India team.

At GIM, every incoming batch begins its academic journey with a thoughtfully designed module titled “A Taste of SEE Learning.” Students are guided through immersive sessions, carefully crafted to help them pause, reflect, and connect—both with themselves and with others. Students engage in:

  • Mindfulness and settling practices
  • Empathy-building exercises
  • Gratitude and interdependence activities
  • Identity and intention exercises

These sessions are secular, research-based, and deeply human—designed to help students navigate the emotional landscape of a rigorous academic environment while staying grounded in purpose.


The Visionaries Behind the Movement

The integration of SEE Learning at GIM was spearheaded by Dr. Divya Singhal and Dr. V. Padhmanabhan, both certified Level 1 facilitators and professors at GIM. “We’re not just preparing students for boardrooms—we’re preparing them for life,” says Dr. Singhal. “SEE Learning equips them with the inner tools to lead with clarity, courage, and compassion,” adds Dr. Padhmanabhan.

Why It Matters

In a world marked by complexity, uncertainty, and rapid change, technical knowledge alone is no longer enough. The leaders of tomorrow must be emotionally intelligent, ethically grounded, and deeply connected to the world around them. GIM’s pioneering work with SEE Learning offers a powerful answer to this call. By embedding SEE Learning into its curriculum, the institution is not only redefining management education—it’s setting a global precedent for what education can and should be.


The Impact So Far

Students have responded with overwhelming positivity, often describing the module as a “pause in a world of speed” and “a space to feel human again.” Many have expressed a desire to see SEE Learning embedded across terms, not just at induction. And that’s exactly where GIM is headed—toward a future where emotional and ethical learning is not a moment, but a mindset.
