History & Profile

Cledwyn Fernandez is an Assistant Professor at the Goa Institute of Management in the General Management and Public Policy Area. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from XLRI, Jamshedpur. During his Ph.D. tenure he had an opportunity to work for the State Government of Jharkhand on drafting the 15th Finance Commission Report for the State of Jharkhand.
 
He has over 5 years of experience across both academia and policy. Prior to GIM, he was a Research Fellow at The Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), a public policy think tank working on issues around gender, labour, enterprise development, and multilateral development financing. During his tenure at ICRIER, he has worked on impactful projects around gender, labour markets, manufacturing enterprises, and development finance. He was closely involved in working with the Ministry of Finance during India’s G20 Presidency on Reforming Multilateral Development Banks, and with the Ministry of Electronics at Information Technology (MeitY). In addition, he has worked with grant organizations and funders including Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), Ford Foundation, Gates Foundation, and UNDP. 

He was also a Visiting Faculty at IMT Ghaziabad, teaching courses on Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Business Environment.  Previously, he has also taught at T.A. Pai Management Institute, Manipal (TAPMI), as an Assistant Professor in Economics. 

Research Interest

His research work broadly in the area of gender and development, labour markets, industrial economics, and financial inclusion. He has published several research papers in the area of international trade, financial inclusion. His publications are currently in international journals like Managerial and Decision Economics, Journal of Public Affairs, and World Economics. In addition, he has authored several policy briefs and has been a part of important technical reports for the Government of India. He has also authored several case studies in leading case houses, including Ivey Publishing, Case Centre, and Emerald Emerging Market Case Studies. Additionally, his work has been featured in leading print media, including Economic Times, The Hindu, The Mint etc. 

Teaching Interest
His teaching interest includes Managerial Economics, Macroeconomics, Economic Policy Analysis, and International Finance, and Business Environment, to name a few.
