Currently pursuing a PhD in the CSIS Department at BITS Pilani, Goa campus, Mr. Afonso holds a Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Telecommunications from Goa University. With around 10 years of overall work experience, including 3 years in teaching, he joined as a Lecturer at GIM after working in the Accreditation Department, where he remains an active member. His role involves supporting various National (NBA) and International accreditation (AASCSB, AMBA-BGA, EQUIS) efforts, ensuring the institution maintains high-quality standards. He is also engaged in the implementation of Assurance of Learning (Outcome-Based Education) at GIM, where he collaborates with a team to quantitatively assess the competencies acquired by students, analyze their progress, and drive continuous improvements.
He is currently focused on the experimental analysis of heuristic algorithms and is also working on establishing a convexity measure that can be used as a shape descriptor. His teaching interests encompass Optimization Techniques, Programming for Analytics in Python, Machine Learning, Data Visualization, and Power BI.
