Vipin Kumar Chathayam

Profile History

Vipin Kumar Chathayam is an Assistant Professor in the area of Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management at the Goa Institute of Management. His PhD is in Human Resource Management from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. His doctoral thesis, “Essays on Public-Sector Volunteers in India,” examines how the state organises essential public work without granting workers the status of employees. His research spans public-sector volunteer management, control and resistance at work, liminal careers, and the moral economy of work, using labour process theory and ethnographic methods.

His work is published in the Journal of Business Ethics and Economic & Political Weekly, with papers under review at various high ranked journals. He has presented at international conferences including the Academy of Management, the International Labour Process Conference, and the European Network for Public Administration, and reviews for leading management conferences. His teaching interests include Human Resource Management, AI for Human Resource Management, and HR in the Social Sector, and he brings applied, discussion-based learning to the classroom.

Before academia, he worked with the United Nations Development Programme and the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan on youth and volunteer development in rural India, and earlier in healthcare marketing in Dubai.
